Switch and Data

TAMPA, FL.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2007--Switch and Data (NASDAQ: SDXC), a leading provider of Internet exchange and colocation services, today announced that voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services provider Broadvox has expanded its presence into Switch and Data facilities in nine markets to extend its reach and further penetrate the fast-growing wholesale, enterprise, and small and medium business (SMB) VoIP markets.  Broadvox lowers transit costs, enables new services and improves voice quality by colocating and connecting to its customers and prospects in Switch and Data’s facilities in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seattle, and Tampa.

An important new Broadvox initiative is its GO! SIP Trunking solution which transports calls and services to and from customers in an IP end-to-end environment.  This gives enterprise and SMB customers the full financial savings and feature benefits of purchasing an IP or Hybrid PBX.  Broadvox estimates this solution can reduce customer’s voice communications spend by up to 70%, while also allowing the rollout of new Unified Messaging and Presence-based applications.  Broadvox uses Switch and Data’s PAIX® VoIP solution to exchange its traffic with other providers in a facility via an all-IP peering environment, partitioned from other PAIX peering traffic to provide high voice quality service.

“Switch and Data gives us extensive geographic reach and will allow us to immediately expand our new Broadvox GO! SIP Trunking product line into new markets nationwide,” said Sergey Galchenko, Chief Technology Officer for Broadvox.  “We can drive down costs and enable the rollout of new enhanced IP voice services to our customers by being closer to call origination and termination points and eliminating unnecessary VoIP/TDM conversions.”

Broadvox is expanding into new Switch and Data facilities to meet fast growing demand for VoIP services in markets across the United States.  Communications industry research firm TeleGeography reports that U.S. VoIP subscription rates grew 117%, from 4.2 million subscribers at the end of 2005 to 9.0 million by the end of 2006.  By mid-year 2007, 11.8 million VoIP lines were in service.  Annual VoIP services revenue topped $2.6 billion in 2006, and TeleGeography estimates revenue will exceed $4.9 billion in 2007.

“Switch and Data’s wide geographic footprint and high density and diversity of carriers, services providers and customers provide the ideal environment for Broadvox to grow its wholesale VoIP business,” said Ernie Sampera, Senior Vice President Marketing at Switch and Data. “Broadvox accelerates deployment of its new SIP trunking service to enterprises and SMBs by originating and terminating traffic IP end-to-end on our PAIX VoIP Exchanges in multiple markets nationwide.”
